later, after he forgot to buy me the ice cream he promised, and after he tried to hug and kiss my mother who pushed him away, my mother asked me if i'd had a good time and i lied, said yes, a very good time, just like he'd told me to say and i never told her about Burt Lancaster's prison riot, him and all his men getting gas-bombed and gunned down by the cops or about my nightmares about Tom Holt getting shot in the back by Humphrey Bogart.  i'd have until i was ten and finally realised that the movies wewn't real.
